The Song of The Ninety-Nines

Updated: May 19, 2020

As part of my research for my fifth book, Gipsy MOTH, I discovered an organization called The Ninety-Nines - an international organization of women pilots created to advance women in aviation and provide networking, mentoring, and flight scholarship opportunities to recreational and professional female pilots around the world.

The Ninety-Nines was founded by 99 Axiatrix on 2nd November 1929 at Curtiss Field, Valley Stream, Long Island, New York with pioneering pilots Louise Thaden and Amelia Earhart at the forefront of the movement.

In 1941, Dick Ballou wrote the Song of The Ninety-Nines and it became their official song later that year. It is an ode to all those female pilots, pioneers, and Aviatrix over the ages and of all those today, including my own Aunt Nikki, Amy Johnson, and Amelia Earhart who all feature in my upcoming novel, Gipsy Moth.
